A Race Against Time…

So what’s the oddest race you’ve heard of? Obviously if you’ve come for barrel racing or anything that’s considered “normal” you might want to close this window. Snails, I believe, don’t qualify being in status quo.

Snail racing is entertainment racing… well snails. The name explains itself. Two or more snails are placed on a circular track, and the goal is to reach the edge before all other snails. The radius is normally 13 or 14 inches. To help distinguish between the competitors, numbers on stickers are put on the snails or numbers are painted on the shells.

There is even a championship for snails. It was found in Congham, Norfolk in the 1960s. In recent news, a snail won the 2010 championship with a time of about 3 minutes. What an acomplishment!
